S07 - The Magical West Highlands Tour - 9 Hours

The Magical West – a truly unique scenic sensation

Leaving Inverness, we cross the bonnie Black Isle, and head west up Strath Braan to lonely Achnasheen. From there, this tour follows the Wester Ross Coastal Trail, where your eyes will be drawn, again and again,to the stunning landscapes that surround you on every side. The view down Loch Maree from Glen Docherty has long been recognised as one of the finest in the Highlands. Loch Maree is the largest unaltered freshwater lake in the country, and its shores are dressed in one of the last fragments of the “Great Wood of Caledon” – the original Caledonian Pine forest that once covered so much of Scotland. Beinn Eighe on the Wester Ross Trail

Out west, you are surrounded on all sides by great mountains, each with distinctive shape and character. Will your favourite be Slioch, Beinn Eighe, or An Teallach.

Or perhaps mountains aren’t your thing, in which case you can enjoy the sea views – bays, headlands, magnificent deserted beaches and views out to the Summer Isles and others. Listen for the calls of the many birds, or perhaps the roaring of the Red Deer Stag. Gairloch Beach in Wester Ross

Gairloch beach murmurs with the sounds of the west – a soft breeze sighing and chuckle of waves on the shore. Let the fine sand trickle through your fingers, as you look across to the Isle of Skye. And when your senses are ready, we will take you to that amazing sub-tropical haven – the Inverewe Gardens, where you can wander, to your heart’s content, amid some of the most beautiful and exotic plants imagineable. There is also a restaurant on-site. Rogie Falls on the Blackwater RiverSilver Bridge Falls on the Blackwater River

On our return journey, by a different route, we will travel by Gruinard Bay, a location used by many thriller writers like Bagley, Forsyth and Greg Bear. After views of the Summer Isles, we will pass Dundonnel Estate and take the famous Destitution Road.

We may stop for a photograph or walk at either the awe-inspiring Corrieshalloch Gorge or at the waterfalls on the Blackwater River. Finally, fulfilled, we head for home, having experienced a truly memorable day.

Why not treat yourself to this sense-sensation of a tour, or even gift it to someone special!
